Once again the “Side-shows” will be entertaining both young and old at the Halkirk Games. Hercher’s Side-shows (or Funfair) have attended the Halkirk Games nearly every year since 1930, when Charlie Hercher dressed as a clown to entertain the crowd inside the main arena. “Cheery Charlie” and his wife were well known circus acrobats and he was paid the princely sum of £2 10 shillings for his services. The side-shows will be open for business on Friday evening, all afternoon on Saturday (Games day) and also Saturday night.
